Natural Dye Workshop

SOLD OUT - Please email us if you would like to be placed on a waiting list if any spots open up.

Design your own silk bandana with natural dyes! Over the course of the class, we will discuss the basics of natural dyeing, including fiber selection, natural materials, modifiers, and a few different techniques for making your very own dyed bandana!

Workshop participants do not need any previous dying experience to join, and those with experience will be welcome to contribute their knowledge!

Come prepared with clothes you are ok getting stained.

Altered Books are discarded books that have been re-imagined and re-created!

Writer and English teacher Mary Lovold will guide participants through writing poetry and exploring prose, using portions of the discarded book!

Artist and Art teacher Deb Hannu will share creative and structural techniques for collage, drawing, painting, weaving, even sculpting, into your altered book! Spinny wheels? Yep! Drawers? Certainly possible!

Get started on a book that will be your very own reflective journal, album, book, or event tome!

Introduction to Nature Journaling

Explore and record the world around you through our Nature Journaling series with Ashley Bozman. All workshops are FREE with registration, and all the art supplies you need for each session will be provided!

For this first session, we will meet at Robinson Quarry Park located on Old Wagon Road in Sandstone.
Please bring sturdy shoes, protective clothing, a full water bottle, and bug spray are encouraged for the Robinson Quarry Park hikes. We will be exploring the new trails, and will journey where out group feels confident. We will stop several times to journal, and artists may benefit from bringing something to sit on. There will be a pit toilet available at the beginning and end of the hike.

Exploring the Art of Pastel - EVENT FULL

“Exploring the Art of Pastel” will be a day workshop at the 210 Gallery & Art Center in Sandstone, MN. The pastel workshop will be for beginners to intermediate artists. If you have ever wanted to give pastels a try, this is your chance. I will have a variety of soft pastels for students to experiment with using them along with a few types of paper.

Class is limited to ten students. Register and pay the $10 class fee here. If all spaces are full - please send us an email to let us know you’d like to be placed on the waiting list!

Or make arrangements with the Gallery when you email to register.

We will cover the variety of soft pastels, various papers to use, design and composition using notans and a small pastel. This class will cover the simple basics of pastels with future classes utilizing pastel grounds, underpaintings and layers.

In the morning, there will short presentation and pastel exercises that include: type of soft pastels and pencils; examples paper and boards; blending and pastel mixing; value and picking a palette exercise; design and composition with notans exercise. 

In the afternoon, each student will get the chance to create their own pastel painting.
